Hello everyone
Summer is finally here although the dry weather means extra watering for us and more effort to dig holes or when trying to take weeds out - the ground is like concrete! However, the garden is blooming well. The new climbing roses which were donated to us earlier in the year are starting to bloom and the rose arch into the orchard is looking lovely. The brightest plant award must go to the almost luminous pink lychnis which is at the end of the straight bit of path close to the benches - not bad for a £5 garden centre reduced corner special .

Other recent works include improvements to the sides of the pond, so it holds the water better with the addition of a rockery and alpine plants. There are some new (kindly donated) easily accessible planters with salad growing in them and a cover has been added to the fruit cage to make a mini poly tunnel. Our next big project will be to make a sensory area in front of the orchard area. The application for the grant has gone in, so fingers crossed. A huge thank you to all our volunteers for all their hard work, it really is appreciated.
We had great fun at the Andover Garden Fair a few weekends ago. Thank you to everyone who visited and bought a plant. We made just over £350, which will all be invested back in the garden.
In June, Rooting for Andover will be at Roman School fete on the 14th, the Andover Wellbeing Fair in the town centre on the 22nd and our Chair, Michael, is a guest speaker for the Andover Food Partnerships' Local Growing Workshop which is in the Augusta Park Community Centre at 13.30 on Wednesday 25 June.
If you want to come and help out at the garden, we have 3 sessions a week (weather depending):
Monday - 6pm to 8pm
Tuesday 10am to 12 noon
Saturdays 10am to 1pm.
Our RHS Southeast in Bloom judging is on 1 July, so it's all hands on deck to help make the garden look at its very best.
As always, if you have any comments or suggestions about the garden, we'd love to hear from you.
Kind regards
Vicki, Michael and Maureen.
