🎉 Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all our friends and supporters of Poppy Community Garden! We hope you had a lovely festive break and are feeling refreshed and ready for the year ahead.

🌿 A Quiet Month in the Garden

December and January are fairly quiet months in the garden. Our wonderful volunteers enjoyed a well-deserved rest over Christmas. That said, there has still been some progress, with more work completed on our mini step-over dead hedges , they’re really starting to take shape now. The war memorial plant area has also been woodchipped to help with the weeds. Lots of seeds have been ordered and sowing will start this month for some plants that need a longer growing season, such as chillies.

🎄 Volunteer Christmas Celebrations

Before the break, our volunteers gathered for a Christmas celebration at the Wyke Down. It was a rare sight to see everyone looking so smart, with not a muddy hand in sight! A lovely time was had by all.

📝 Annual Survey & Website Updates

Our annual survey is now live, and we would really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to fill it in. The survey will close next weekend on 11 January - https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2QT3MZ9 Your feedback helps shape the future of the garden.

While you’re online, do have a look at our updated website, where we’ve added lots of photos and older newsletters. Community Gardening for Everyone in Andover Hampshire | Rooting for Andover

🎂 Celebrating 4 Years of the Garden

We were delighted to celebrate a special milestone recently, the community garden’s 4th anniversary since we first began work on the site. You can see from the photos below just how much it has developed and changed from an area that was previously just brambles and scrubland. The outside photo is what is now our front entrance area. This was marked in true Poppy Garden style with celebratory cups of tea and tasty treats enjoyed in the polytunnel. ☕🍰

🐦 RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch

We’ll be taking part in the RSPB’s Big Garden Bird Watch on Saturday 24 January between 11:00am and 12:30pm. Please come and join us as we keep an eye out for our feathered visitors and help contribute to this important nationwide survey.

🌱 Gardening Sessions Resume
