Hello everyone
We have some exciting new additions to the Poppy Community Garden with our new rubbing plaques. There are six around the garden for you to find and have a go at. See if you can find them all.
It's been a really dry summer this year. Unfortunately, we do not have direct access to water at the community garden so are reliant on capturing our own or running a hose over from the community centre to fill up our IBCs. As neither of those are currently possible, the water we have has to last until we get more regular rain or the hose pipe ban is lifted. This means that we have had to prioritise what gets watered in the garden and may mean that some plants are looking a little bit sorry for themselves.
However, the veggies are doing well. Have you seen our massive squash plants going up the rambler frame? We've nicknamed it Audrey (after the very hungry carnivorous plant in the Little Shop of Horrors film) as it looks like it might try and capture you if you get too close!
We are doing regular vegetable pickings and any excess is being placed in the free produce boxes near the front entrance. We politely ask visitors not to pick the produce themselves.
Rooting for Andover will also be firing up the BBQ for the August Park Summer Fair on 16 August. Come and have a look around the garden and grab a burger, hotdog or cold drink.
We also have our very first apple day coming up on 30 August. If you have an apple tree, bring the apples down to be pressed. Or, just come down to try some apple-based treats, buy some fresh apple juice and join in our apple themed games.
If you want to get involved with the community garden or just want to come and say hello, our regular sessions are on Monday evenings (summer only) 6pm to 8pm, Tuesday mornings 10 to 12 noon and Saturdays 10am to 1pm.
We love to hear from you so feel free to comment on our social media pages or send us an email.
Kind regards
Vicki, Michael & Maureen
